Sundin scores 500th
What a sense of relief that must’ve washed over Tucker in the sin bin when Sundin pumped his 500th goal of his career into the Calgary net less than 2 minutes into the overtime frame.
Short-handed. In overtime. 500th. Only 35 guys have done it.
Wow.
What a goal.
What’s even more spectacular that the guys on the Hotstove suggested that the Leafs may not pick up the option on Sundin’s contract for next season, mainly because the CBA calls for the average yearly salary to count against the cap. For Sundin that’s 6.3 mil, even though they’re only paying about 4.5. They also suggested that what the Leafs might do if they’re bowing out of the post-season is deal him to a contender then sign him back for 07-08.
Hard to think of stuff like that on a night like tonight.
And how about Wellwood? Is this guy having a banner year or what? What a line they’ve formed, Sundin Wellwood and Tucker.
SWaT.
The SWaT Line.
The Avalanche, Blue Jackets and Rangers next week, followed by another home and home with the Ottawa Senators, who beat the Leafs in their season opener and haven’t won a game since.
(Note: they won the shootout against Montreal a few minutes ago)
